Chapter 14
Winter’s POV
Hand in hand, Lucas and I dashed through the rain, each step we took sending small splashes of water up from the ground, adding to the playful chaos of the moment. We giggled playfully like children and ran into the safety of the cave.
“It’s so cold!” I exclaimed, shivering as I wiped the droplets of water from my face with the back of my hand.
Lucas, with his own breathless chuckle, also responded, “Tell me about it.”
Although the air was cold, there was a warmth I felt inside of me that defined the chill of the weather, and it came from the laughter we shared at that moment.
Lucas, as usual, started to gather dry leaves and sticks, expertly arranging them into a pile before striking flint against steel to make fire. I moved closer, letting him drape a shawl around my shoulders.
“Thank you,” I murmured gratefully and settled down by the fire, where the heat started to slowly seep into my chilled bones.
