“Surprise?” Alpha Bennet said nervously.

“What do you mean, mate hunting, Papa?” Selene asked her father in shock.

“Hold on, before you decide to chop my head off, let me explain. It’s not exactly how it sounds,” he assured her.

He took his seat with his hands on his desk and his fingers interlocked in a serious fashion. He was trying to exude confidence outwardly, but inside him, he was nervous about his daughter’s reaction.

The plan was something he and his mate had set in place before she died. She was supposed to be the one to tell Selene about the whole thing, but with her gone, the daunting task was left to him.

“So… ummm… I’m really not good with words,” he groaned. “Your mother was supposed to be the one doing the talking while I just stayed by the side and nodded in agreement,” he said to her with his head bent in defeat.
