Chapter 10. Of Dinner Dates, Rejections, and Burned Bridges
“Oh, it’s nothing, just a little accident,” she denied it, wanting to conceal the truth about how she got the wound from Mark.
“Was it the guy who did that to you?” He pressed on, still looking at the wound.
“Oh no, it was just an accident at home; it’s not like anything of that sort happened,” she insisted, removing her arm from his hold.
He was about to apologize for the intrusion when he realized that there was something off about the way she was acting. Her eyes were golden, and he also recognized the pendant she was wearing; he had seen it somewhere but could not remember where.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost; I do not bite,” she said, chuckling nervously.
