Chapter 11. Tangled in Us
Charlotte and Mark lay on top of the truck, staring at the stars in the starry sky. They had gotten some burgers and fries from the restaurant and had now driven to the beach. It wasn’t how either of them had decided to spend their night, but it did make a lot of sense to them, so they allowed themselves to enjoy the night.
“You know, this is the first time I’m coming to a place like this at night,” Mark broke the silence.
“Really?” Charlotte stared at him in disbelief.
“Yeah, my dad had this fear of letting me go that far, so I just wandered around.”
“Oh, I noticed you do not talk about your mother at all. Why’s that?”
“Oh, my mom? I never met her. My dad said she died a few minutes after giving birth to me, so it’s just been me and my dad doing our own thing,” he replied.
“I’m so sorry about that.”
“Yeah, it’s fine. I have pictures of her in my room, so I know what she looks like, and my dad would tell me stories of her when I was young.”<
