The next day went by surprisingly smoothly. Gen had eased back into her regular work life, and everything else seemed to be going well, including things with Dom. She had even been able to visit Zara since the first day after she got back from Madrid. Taylor had been to the hospital, and it turned out that she was going to have a baby; she was already four weeks along!

Gen was so excited. The world seemed a lot brighter these days, maybe a little too bright, but whenever that thought crossed her mind, she pushed it away. She did not want to jinx it. But she should have known. So when a familiar figure walked into The Corner Bistro, she was only partly surprised to see that her smooth-running week had finally been disrupted.
