Chapter 57. Try to Build Back
Lisa waited and timed when Hilda was out before walking slowly to the bedroom she had shared with Sinclair. She had not been in the room for several weeks now because there was a new land lady. She stood by the door and knocked slowly. There was no response and she knocked again, loudly.
“Who’s there?” Sinclair’s voice asked from the room. Lisa did not reply.
“Who is there?” he asked again and she had to answer. She took a deep breath.
“It’s me. Lisa,” she said and there was silence for a while that she feared he might not let her in.
“Enter, the door is open,” he said finally. She pushed the door open slowly and walked in. For the first time in a very long while, Lisa saw the man whom she had gotten married to. The man whom she had lived the most horrible days of her life with.
