Chapter 44. Repercussions
The Monroes went to bed with just one anticipation for the next day. They’d leave New York behind and all the garbage that came with it.
This was a simple enough plan, right?
That day, Mrs. Monroe had gathered everything remotely expensive into a moving box; well, she used a maid to gather them, but the same thing.
Throwing orders, the maid would delicately pick up a silverware or antique, costing more than the fortune her modest family had ever gathered; even if a statement of account was made and the total of each family member summed up, the vase would somehow be the one on top.
She used the same frailness to secure it into the box riddled with soft foam and seal it up.
Mrs. Monroe would waddle around the house, eyes peeled for anything else that may be of remote value. She had more than enough and could probably afford much more, but she simply wasn’t ready to let the maids have anything priceless in their hands. They were undeserving.
