Chapter 64. Crumble
“You’re leaving,” Alexander walked up to Isabella as she dragged her luggage behind her.
“Yes. I need to stay with Jane for a few days and, afterward, back home,” she tried to appear casual, which seemed to work.
“You’re welcome to stay. Always welcome,” he attempted to dissuade her.
“No. I need to leave you lovebirds alone,” the statement left a bitter taste in her mouth as she swallowed thickly.
“But…”
“She wants to leave, Alex. You’ve got to let her go,” Bethany, who had a death grip on his arm, used her spare ones the rub soothing circles. She turned to Isabella with a warm smile. “Thank you. For taking care of him while I was gone.”
Isabella couldn’t tell if this was a silent threat or a genuine thanks; nonetheless, she took it.
“It’s fine. I’ll give you both your space right now,” she gave a tight-lipped smile before nodding slightly.
