"Well, we got a second letter," I said, my voice trembling slightly. "Telling us you were wounded and Laurence was missing. It was allegedly signed by Veronica. On the way here we got attacked. It was storming badly, and I don't know why. I already forgot what the doctors said, but I passed out. She carried me all the way here. Zave, she's exhausted."

"She carried you?" Zave's brows furrowed in disbelief.

I nodded, watching Zave's jaw clench. Understanding his anger, I waited for a moment before continuing.

"I know you're mad at me, I get that, but listen, she needs to see you-"

"I'm not mad, Lexcis," he sighed, his shoulders slumping.

"Hearing this scared the shit out of me, yes. It made all my fears come true for just a moment, yes. But I'm fucking proud of her because you're immense. Even I couldn't carry you," he said, hi
