"Yes. I require it. I don't want to face him because I hate him, but I have to. That's the only way I can be sure you'll be safe too," I assert, trying to convey my reasoning.

To show his anger, Lexcis closes his eyes, clenching his teeth tightly. I can almost hear all of his murderous thoughts.

"This is so wrong that you're making me do it," he grumbles, frustration evident in his voice.

"I won't do it if you really don't want me to," I assure him, though my resolve remains firm. "We'll go together, but please be aware that he will likely try to kill a person we go with."

After a few more seconds of swearing and thinking, I hear it. "Fine."

I say to Lexcis over the phone, "Yes, I can hear you," as I grip the phone tightly.

"Watch out. My thoughts are already on you, so I can't even do this right and—" Lex
