"So you are telling me you love that useless king?" I challenge, hoping to steer the conversation away from dangerous territory.

If I say yes, he'll only want to kill Lexcis more. If I say no, I'll be lying, and he knows that.

"Does it matter? Because I will never love you. And that's no one's fault but your own. Maybe if you were nicer, if you didn't hurt me or the people I loved, maybe Damon," I retorted, my voice tinged with bitterness.

"You're telling me I have a chance of winning your heart over? How sweet of you," he chuckles darkly. "You're already mine, it doesn't matter what you want."

I close my eyes, feeling defeated. He's not even listening to me. And why do I even try?
