I signed my mate's death approval. I don't know if that makes me.

I couldn’t get it out of my head, the way her eyes widened when the sentence was announced, the disbelief, the betrayal that was evident in her unshed tears. But it was the hurt that pierced through my chest like a dagger. She had looked at me like I was the one who had just stabbed her.

Maybe I was.

I stormed down the hallways of the council chambers, my steps echoing furiously against the stone flo
