Those eyes were not Jason’s. I did not want to believe it; there was something so fierce in his gaze that it made me shiver. I could not maintain eye contact and looked away.
“Why are you not looking at me, Clarisa? Do I disgust you so much?” he said, letting out an ironic sigh.
He had already tried to kick us out, and it had not worked, so he looked grumpy. I wondered if he’d had enough to eat and drink or if he’d been put through the wringer.
“Tell me the reason for what you are doing,” I began to say, struggling to remain steadfast in front of the man I once loved.
“You do not care; I told you before, and you chose to hurt me,” he said with a look of overwhelming contempt. “You are the worst woman I have ever met in my life.”
This direct attack caused Lion to draw his sword in the face of this insult to me. I interrupted him and signaled him to leave me alone to talk; I needed that space.
