The search for the two children was the most difficult thing in my life because I had a bad feeling about what was going on. Jacob lay there with so many blows to his head that he was barely conscious.
When I entered the room, Carmen was lying on the floor, feeling for the baby who was still in the crib. Nicolas was still there; he had not been taken away. The woman could barely speak; she was stammering and shaking on the floor. I asked her to stay there and wait for more help while I moved the other baby to safety. She held my leg to prevent me from leaving.
“She took him, she left, Clarisa took Cethium…” she said, with what little strength she had left to continue resisting. She looked very weak; they would have to carry her to get her out of there and get her medical attention.
