Chapter 29. Investigation
DOVE
Charlie smiled when he saw me come in; he stood out among all the people. I always smiled and was in a good mood; people always used to tell me that. He looked at me in surprise. I went without disguise or anything, like the Dove of always.
“You look good,” he said, blushing a little as he greeted me.
“How are you, Charlie?” I asked, excited to see him. I had gone under the escort of some guards, but I didn’t think I was in danger there. It seemed more dangerous to stay in the castle, given the way things were.
“Good, better since you gave us more security,” he replied, smiling and squinting his eyes. He was adjusting some boxes, took out a package from it, and handed it to me, gesturing for me to accept it. “Open it; they’re newly arrived.”
I took the box and broke the seal to see its contents. Inside, there were garlic and cheese bread, which seemed toasted. Fresh food always arrived there, made at local restaurants.
