Chapter 30. Surrounded
DOVE
We went to the other house and met a woman who wasn’t very friendly but with icy politeness. She received us in her garden outside with intact respect. She looked at me with distrust, as if she didn’t believe I was the queen.
“Yes, they are bad people,” the woman said shortly. She wasn’t very eloquent when speaking. “They’re on a bad path; all those boys turned out to be bad.”
“Are they crazy or what?” Charlie asked impatiently. The woman didn’t want to be rushed; she took her time to speak.
“I don’t know. I’ve seen crazier; they’re not completely,” she answered after a few seconds. I noticed she measured her words so as not to give me too much information.
“Did you know the deceased cook?” I asked, omitting the part that that man had stabbed me.
