Chapter 50. Carmen
DOVE
The minutes seemed to pause in front of my eyes. I slid my hand over my belly, feeling the life of my baby, its heartbeat, and the growth of its soul. The gestation of another being was wonderful, the life growing inside of me, something I would love more than anything in the world. Now, sized up to the atrocious danger I exposed myself to, or, better yet, that I tempted with my hasty audacity.
I looked around; there were no traces of any person, no sound either. I was alone in a desert adorned with luxury. If the cook appeared, I could consider myself dead. Despite having a dagger to defend myself, I wouldn’t be fast enough. There were so many infiltrators that could appear from anywhere.
I closed my eyes, asking for a miracle, while tears escaped from me.
“What’s going on?” asked a familiar voice from behind me. Lion was back, with my husband beside him; his words had turned out to be true.
