I held the book and read it out loud to myself. Mirna was doing the same, and I wanted to try to make her more confident.

“Day 23” was written at the top, presumably the dates she wrote or so I thought.

“On this day, I chose a dress that was a bit tighter than usual; it made me look more mature and slender. My father would kill me if he saw me wearing something like this. I painted my lips red to make my mouth stand out because my mouth is small, and I like it to have color. I’m splendid; I fell in love with myself in the mirror when I saw myself with my new style. I love the courting stage; it’s so intoxicating.

I float on clouds every time Zack whispers something in my ear; I’m starting to believe that this is a true blessing, like my parents say. When I’m the queen, I’ll order a lapacho statue to be built; it’s my favorite tree, and I’d like to see it with flowers all year round. I’ve come up with many things to order when I rule.
