Cassandra’s POV
“There are still things worth fighting for.” Another response came to mind, but I pushed it away. I searched my heart for a better alternative, but none emerged.
Seeing no other option, I said what I had in mind. “There’s me. You still love me, right? Am I not valuable enough for you to fight for?” Surely, that would bring Daniel back to his senses, I thought.
Daniel laughed, a laugh similar to the other prisoner’s. Soon, a corresponding laugh echoed from farther down the aisle, originating from the other prisoner. His laughter, though similar to Daniel’s, conveyed a different sentiment—not anger, fear, or desperation to escape, but encouragement and approval.
Daniel slammed his arm against the bars, wincing in pain but still laughing. “Who are you that I’d waste my time fighting for you?! What are you?”
