Chapter 2
Mom serves Tanya breakfast and tells her, "You're taking your sisters to school today."
"What? Why? They have you and dad."
"And they have you as well. Your dad already left and I have a lot of errands to run this morning which leaves you to drive them to school, and that is exactly what you are going to do," mom orders, picking up her purse and phone.
"No, you know I don't like driving with them, they're annoying," Tanya whines.
At this point, I can't help but roll my eyes.
"And, Megan doesn't even go to the same school as us so I'll have to drop her off at her school first, ugh," Tiffany continues to whine.
Now, it was Megan's turn to roll her eyes.
"I think your dad and I would have to normalize you driving your sisters to and from school because you have a car which we bought for you..." mom starts but big sis interrupts her.
"I fill the gas with my money."
"If you have so much money, why don't you buy yourself a new car and give your old one to Sam so she can drive me to school without complaining?" Megan asks. That is a rude question, but it's good to know that I'm still regarded as the caring and responsible sister.
"Shut up, no one was talking to you," Tanya shuts her up.
Mom starts to wear her shoes. "Tanya, take your sisters to school, I am not having this argument with you because I'm starting to run late and so are you girls so hurry up with your breakfast. Megan, make sure you eat the lunch I packed you and Sam, make sure you buy healthy food at school okay. Alright, bye girls, love you," mom says finally before leaving.
"We love you too!" I was the only one to respond and my sisters give me weird looks.
What? We love her, don't we?
Tanya leaves her breakfast untouched and angrily stands up, grabs her purse and stomps to the door.
"Are we leaving yet?" I ask.
"What does it look like, genius?" Megan replies as she follows Tanya.
I sigh and leave the house after them, locking the door and putting the key in the big vintage flower vase on the porch. I catch a glimpse of mom's car driving off before it completely disappears out of sight.
"Do you want us to leave you behind, Sam?" Megan asks sarcastically.
Shut up, it's not even your car.
I make my way to the passenger seat only to find the door locked.
"You can't sit there," Tanya tells me matter-of-factly.
"Why not?"
"I'm carrying a designer purse today so I can't just put it on the floor, it has to sit on a chair just like everyone else."
"That's stupid, it's just a purse."
"And you are just a person who is gonna sit in the back with the other person."
I have to go sit in the back with Megan while Tanya's designer purse occupies the passenger seat. She takes out her phone for a selfie and announces, "selfie time!", before taking a couple of selfies for her gram or whatever.
"Can we join?" Megan asks.
"No way," Tanya says and starts the car, carefully manoeuvring it out of the garage and into the street. I seriously can't wait to own a car of my own.
During the drive, Megan reaches forward to turn on the music but Tanya swats her hand away.
"I don't like distractions while driving."
I continue to rehearse in my head when Tanya's phone rings and she picks it up almost immediately.
"Uh, you're not supposed to answer calls while driving. I can hold the phone for you if you want," I offer.
"Shut up, I can take my own calls," she snaps at me and returns to her call. "Oh hey girl... Sorry, I was talking to my annoying little sister... Yeah, I know right... Very annoying... I even have to drive them to school today can you imagine that... I know!... Alright girl, see you at school... Ciao."
Hmph, so much for not wanting distractions.
"Get off, Megan, you're at school," Tanya announces when we arrive at Megan's school.
After getting down from the car, Megan flashes a fresh smile at us. "Don't be late in picking me up from school, okay," she sweetly orders before hopping into her school building.
"What a bossy young lady," Tanya hisses as she drives off.
Look who's talking.
When we get to our school, I don't even wait for Tanya to park properly, I quickly get out of her car and walk towards the school entrance.
"Hey, why are you in such a hurry?!" I hear her ask but don't bother to turn around or reply. I've already had enough of her bullshit for one morning.
I meet my three best friends at my locker, they are probably waiting for me so I smile at them.
"Hey Sam, we wanted to wish you good luck and cheer you on before your audition," Sandra is the first to speak.
"More like they wanted to wish you good luck and cheer you on before your audition, and decided to drag me along," Miranda corrects her.
"Either way, we're here to support our girl," Olive says. She is holding a book which she is probably currently reading, no surprise there.
"Thanks guys, but my audition's not until lunch," I tell them.
"Whenever it is, you have our blessings, so go smash that audition our future leading lady!" Sandra exclaims.
"This is why I didn't want to be a part of this," Miranda says.
"Do you need costumes for your audition?" Sandra asks.
"I've told you so many times that I don't need a costume for an audition. It's just an audition."
"Okay," she singsongs, "if you need costumes, you know where to find me."
"You're just looking for someone to practice your styling skills on," Olive chuckles.
"No. I just want to make sure Sam is fully prepared for her audition."
"And like I said, it's just an audition, okay. Besides, it's not my first audition." I remind her.
"Yeah, but this is your first audition for a leading role!"
The bell rings, signalling us to move our ass to class.
"Go Sam! Our leading lady! Oh yeah! Gooo Sam!" Sandra starts to cheer. She even does a little cheer dance to complement the cheering which cracks us up.
"I honestly feel second hand embarrassment right now." Miranda shakes her head as she walks away, leaving us to follow her and continue cheering on purpose just to annoy her as we make our way to our first class.
