Chapter 178. Into the Hunting Grounds
Eryndor’s POV
It had been a full week since the migration out of Aurion began, and already the caravan’s mood had grown heavy with frustration and sorrow. The once-proud city lay in ruins behind us, its streets reduced to rubble by the merciless assault of the Dreadmaw pack. Led by Zephyr of the Lost, the third Delta of that savage wolf clan, the attack had come swiftly and without mercy.
His wolves had almost wiped out every last soul in Aurion—everybody, that is, except those we managed to rescue through the ultimate sacrifice of my master, Richard the Dragon Knight. If not for his courage, we never would have driven Zephyr back or saved as many lives as we did. Now, though, the survivors trudged along under gray skies, weighed down by grief and uncertainty.
“How much longer is this going to take?” one weary voice called out from the crowd.
“Where’s the underground city the High Seer promised?” another complained sharply.
“I can’t keep going,”
