Chapter 80. The Godfather
Giovanna parked in front of her parents' apartment building. She felt cold. It was no ordinary cold. It was the darkness inside her advancing into her mind. She wanted to protect it.
She decided that she shouldn't think too much, lest she give up and succumb to the overwhelming urge to accelerate the car until it crashed, overturned or fell over. She got out of the car and crossed the street to Freya's apartment. She rang the doorbell for several minutes, but no one answered. Deciding to wait for the man with her fortune to arrive, she let herself slip to the floor and ended up falling asleep from exhaustion or frustration.
She couldn't say how long she had been asleep, but she felt hungry and had no money to feed herself. She took the elevator down to her apartment building, where the doorman stopped her, staring into her cold eyes.
