I bolted out of the office like my ass was on fire, my vision getting hazy as I stumbled inside the ladies washroom. I locked myself in one stall, struggling to get breath past my constricting throat.
"No, no, no," I rambled, rocking back and forth, seated on the toilet seat. No one innocent was supposed to die, not after the protection spell. We failed; Elias, Maribel, and I had failed, I thought, placing my hands above my head.
How was it possible that people still turned out dead? Could it have been something to do with the dread I had felt the previous day and a few minutes before when I awoke? Was my body trying to foreshadow the dumping of the innocent?
"Please open up, baby." It was Ronan who knocked gently on the door. Instead of opening the door, I buried my face in my weakening hands, sniffling.
