"I don't understand," I whispered, trembling in the arms of Kai and Ronan. I felt an additional two additional hands on my back, Elias and Nyra, one rubbing the other one squeezing just slightly for comfort, for support.
"Oh my god, mom," my mother whispered yet again, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Nothing was making sense at that moment, absolutely none. We watched as Maribel dropped onto her knees beside my mom, jaw slack, eyes wide, scanning my mom's pale face. Slowly, she stretched her shaking hand, brushing it across my mom's bloody cheek. It was the same reaction she had directed at me during our first encounter in the mansion.
"My Seraph-ina," Maribel mumbled in a stutter, tracing her palm over my mom's face as if memorizing her features.
