Chapter 29
Smith could see the last floor of his office right from where he sat in the car, waiting for the traffic to disperse. At some point, he had half a mind to just leave the car right there and trek to the office. Then, deal with whatever would come up later, after all, he knew how easy it was to get things done once you had a badge and gun to flash.
But he thought of his cashless situation and decided he didn’t have the money or resources to get a new car if it got to that point. Judging by the ruckus on the street, some fool could possibly bash his car before the street regulators even came to take it out. So, that was what kept him on the seat, staring blankly and waiting until eventually, the towing van moved and the cars rolled along freely.
In the parking lot of the office, Smith parked behind the cleaner’s car, an old Ford that he liked to park close to. Firstly, the man did not leave work until later at night, and secondly, he didn’t take breaks that needed his car.
