Chapter 30
Smith had left work the previous day in a better mood than he arrived. First, there had been a small gang fight in town, and Teddy and himself had gone to check it out. They had taken in two kids, one barely an adult and the other old enough to be in jail.
By the end of the night, two mothers had arrived, pleading and making all the necessary arrangements to bail them out. It was typical; mothers always did the bailing. Maybe because the men could not care less or because there was a large number of single mothers in the United States of America.
Maybe it was the adrenaline or just having something to do that helped. Either way, by the end of the night, Smith felt better than when he had first arrived. The same could not be said about his partner, though, but then Teddy was rarely in a good mood. At least not when he did not have a woman in his life, which was the case at the time.
