Chapter 36
With the envelope tucked back into his shirt, he left, and then his worry began. He thought of all the ways he could use that information, all the people who could possibly be involved in the deal, both within and outside the department, and all the risks and requirements for the mission, which still seemed almost unachievable at the end of the day.
It was then that it all made sense—the way Martin had been sometime before he died. It was his usual slow self, but there had been that shadow of exhaustion, both physically and mentally, that had been evident in his person.
As he strolled down the hallway, he decided to investigate all possible ways to make the deal a reality. The first thing he had to do was make sure the contact Martin may or may not have been working with at the office had no idea what he knew, and if they did, make sure they backed out of it—one way or the other.
