Chapter 21. Kneel
Chris put up both hands to show he was losing, then turned and picked up one of the rogues. As they picked up the last few bodies, my men stepped forward, afraid to look at me.
I knew Chris was mad that I put everything we’d worked for years on the line, but I didn’t care. Derek questioned every order I gave him, manipulated and lied about me behind my back, and then treated me badly in front of me. He should have had his throat cut out, and I wouldn’t want to serve a goddess who disagreed.
I also knew that killing the rest of the Rogues, especially since it was against what the princess had told me to do, would make people suspicious. I couldn’t let anyone question them. When they saw how I killed Derek, they would turn on me in an instant.
Elise might not have told her father. I’m sure that Finn would twist it to make me look like the bad guy. I had to fix this by getting to the King.
