Richard’s daughter was very close to screaming at them. She was speaking with enough tension in her voice to break concrete if it snapped. She looked like she wanted it to snap, she look like she wanted to snap.
“My father is sixty-three years old,” she said from her stool in the kitchen table but if Carlos were listening to her from somewhere outside the room he would have thought that she was toe to toe with Stones, glaring into his face. “If any of the Brothers should be at risk of being hunted down it should be you. He ought to have retired a long time ago. He should’ve been spending time with his grandchildren not with killers and criminals.”
“He was one of us,” Stones said, not at all phased by the venom in her voice. He didn’t stop speaking even as she got to her feet and did glare up in his face. “And I’m sure you are aware that no one forced your father to remain with the super consortium as one of the Brothers.”
