Chapter 57. The Name of the Painting
Carlos held his gaze for a few seconds, then snorted. Lucas did too and went on to chuckle, as if he had said something funny.
Alfred leaned down to whisper in Carlos’ ear, “It’s possible he’s bluffing, but he’s definitely got some fresh dose of confidence. It’s either he found out you’ve got a lot more money to buy it with, or he guesses you want it badly, or he’s got wind of why you want to buy it somehow.” Carlos nodded twice, then thrice. He made a show of checking his watch, then turned to Lucas. “Very well then.”
Lucas turned his head when Carlos made to leave. “I’m giving you this offer because you’re the first to ask for it, so I think you’ll place more value on it. If you change your mind, you know how to reach me, but I advise you to do so before the week runs out.”
