Chapter 59. A Good Bargain
Carlos obviously had Lucas under surveillance, so he was the first to hear the news, but he didn’t behave as if he did. He took his time, dressed himself up nicely, and arrived at the restaurant just in time.
When quite a few minutes had gone by and the waiters were beginning to glance worriedly at Carlos, he ordered a meal. He took his time slicing his steak, chewing it, swallowing, and sipping his wine to wash it all down. When he was all done, he ordered one of their best wines and strolled out of the restaurant.
“Ah,” he sighed after getting in his car and seating himself relaxedly. “It’s rare to get the chance to sit and slowly enjoy your meal that way.”
“Absolutely, sir,” Clark said.
“Life’s so fast these days; everyone is in a hurry,” Alfred played along as if this was an actual conversation. It was almost ridiculous. “We all need a moment of slowness and deliberateness in our daily lives.”
They all nodded in agreement like actors in a play. Soo
