Alfred had stepped into the room now. No Named spared him a flickering glance and went on seamlessly. “Old Richard’s men were only after the painting; they traced it all the way to its origin, some struggling artist in Vegas over two decades ago, then traced it back to the yard sale where Lucas bought it for about seventy bucks. I wasn’t looking for the painting, so I picked up where they left off and dug deeper. It was one of the last few paintings the guy made before he died, and considering he didn’t make that many before he died anyway, it wasn’t too hard to track it down after I’d had my guys hunt down his family, ancestry, and everything he’d ever owned. It maybe wouldn’t have been so easy to trace it if he hadn’t had legal documents indicating ownership of all his paintings.”
