Chapter 77. The First Day

Fiona was feeling rather stupid. She had spent what couldn’t have been less than three hours wandering the room, jumping up and down to test the floor, and exploring the bathroom for useful tools. It was only after she had pretty much given up for the time being that she tried the door. It swung open.

To be fair, she couldn’t be blamed for that. None of her other kidnapping experiences had the door open. She slipped out of the room and found no security guards waiting in the hallway. She found the staircase and went down to the ground floor. The doors that led out of the building were the only ones that were locked. She took that in stride; at least she knew what kept her trapped now.

She was getting hungry and a little thirsty. Her voice echoed in the empty house whenever she made a sound. She tried not to speak; she’d learned from previous experiences that she preferred looking like she had everything under control to her abductors.
