But they were not going to stop me from what I was about to do. I knew this place wasn’t ideal, but at least I would be away from my mom and all that toxicity.
The line moved finally and it was now my turn. “Passport?”
I nodded, handing the lady my phone. “It’s on here.”
She didn’t even smile or anything, she looked annoyed. She took the phone and used it to type something on the computer before handing it back to me. “Have you recently or ever had a place to stay?”
I nodded again before verbally adding, “Yes, but I was kicked out this morning.”
“Do you think things can be fixed between your family and you? Because you see, there are other people who don’t have a family at all. There are limited rooms here so if we’re giving you one of them, you can’t just wake up one morning and say you’re going back to
