“Aunt Yuki needs me for something,” he said.
The guard closest to him frowned. “Aren’t you doing some event with the other kids tonight?” he asked.
“I am,” said Callisto. “But Grace is upset about not participating and I’m trying to be a good brother.”
The guard contemplated Callisto’s words. “Why couldn’t she participate?” he asked.
“As you’re likely aware, the snipe itself is a red herring and simply does not exist. My sister has a very high prey drive. We try to discourage any activity that may result in her actively pursuing any type of higher thinking creature, and there exists the possibility that she may decide to pursue one of our own out of frustration.”
The guards exchanged looks and nodded. This was a very sound argument and there was no reason to suspect duplicity on Callisto’s part.
“Do you need an escort?” asked the guard.
“Aunt Yuki is expecting me,” said Callisto. “And Aunt Abella will be watching.”
