Vera's POV
When a warm drop landed on my shoulder, I looked up at his face. Jack was blinking fast, fighting his tears back.
If there’s one thing I learned from my father, it’s this: when a man cries because someone broke his heart, the woman just lost the best thing that ever happened to her.
Whatever was hurting Jack, one thing was clear: he’d held it in for too long. And now, here he was, letting it out, with me. That made me feel special. He wasn’t hiding anymore. He told me exactly how he felt.
"It wasn’t your fault, Jack. I told you before, right? You were sick. Marriage is for better or worse! I know that if she had been in your shoes, you would've stayed and helped her heal!" I snapped, hurt on his behalf.
