Jackson's POV

I couldn’t stop thinking about what Monica said, that someone gave her the envelope on Christmas Eve. I needed answers, and the only way to get them was to confront her directly. I wasn’t in the mood for polite talk. I was beyond pissed off. This whole mess? It was on me.

If I hadn’t allowed Monica the freedom to come and go in my house as she pleased, Vera wouldn’t be this angry with me and I would still have my child.

As I drove into my compound, another thought hit me, I had left Tim alone since morning. I hadn’t heard from Mrs. Briggs either. What if he couldn’t reach her or Max? What if something had gone wrong?

I parked at the gate, jumped out of the car, and stormed toward the front door. The living room was empty when I got inside. I was reaching for my phone to call Max when Mrs. Briggs called me first.

"Mr. Jack," she said, sounding nervous. "Tim was with me earlier, but Monica picked him up an hour ago."
