Chapter 10. Meet Me By 12

Lila’s POV

The news came as a thunderclap to the school. Emily wasn’t still at school and I heard some kids say that her mom was hyperactive and she had freaked out, I heard more the following morning as soon as I entered the school hallways. There were worried looks, whispered voices and quick looks as if everyone was searching for a shadow.

As if they were expecting her to jump out from one of those lockers.

Clinging to my books until my knuckles turned white, I stood motionless close to my locker that one would mistake me for a statue.

Emily.

The thought of her disappearing without a trace made my throat tighten even though I hardly knew her. I felt so bad for her mom, once I had lost my way back at Littleton High, I was a new student and was never good with directions and finding my way. Mom had freaked out and was yelling at the police to find her only child.

Leah emerged, and stood beside me, her face tense and pale.

“Have you h
