Lila’s POV

The message on my screen drew my attention until my eyes ached.

Meet me by the old pier by midnight. Alone.

I really don’t know where that was but I would find my way.

The words weighed heavily on my chest like a brick. My fingers shook as I gripped my phone. My mind was racing. Who sent this?

Why the pier? For what reason? Why me?

All of my instincts told me not to leave. That might be harmful. Maybe its a trap. A tiny stupid inquisitive part of me however wanted to go anyway and that this was a solution.

The light from my phone shone on my face as I sat on the edge of my bed cradling my knees. My heart was loud even though the night outside my window was quiet, striking a hard rhythm.
