Chapter 17. Injury
“How are you feeling?” Ervin asked. “Are you okay?”
This was the umpteenth time he had asked.
“Yes, Ervin, I am fine. I swear if you ask me one more time–”
“I just want to make sure you are fine,” he said, cutting me off. His voice was thick with concern, and for a second, I felt guilty for snapping.
“I’m fine,” I answered quietly. I turned to him. “Why do you even care?”
He turned to me, raising an eyebrow. “You are my mate,” he stated matter-of-factly.
I rolled my eyes. “Oh, please. Spare me the mate crap. We both know you don’t give two shits about that since you don’t believe we are mates.”
“I am your Beta, Hazel. It is my job to ensure you are fine at all times,” Ervin stated, his jaw tightening.
Was he mad? At me? I rolled my eyes again. “I don’t see you going from door to door in the pack asking everyone that suffered an injury during the rogue attack if they are fine every passing minute.”
