Chapter 23. Trying Harder
HAZEL'S POV
Weeks had gone by, and I had neither tasted food nor water. My dad tried his best to get me to eat, as did my brothers, especially Jason.
“You know, I heard one’s voice box can disappear if not used for a long while,” Jason said, plucking the petals of the white roses he had brought earlier. I loved white roses, but I was not happy; I was slowly drifting into depression. I lost interest in everything; things that used to excite me no longer did. I barely showered or brushed.
My wolf seemed to share in my pain; she was also sad. I could hear and feel her whining. She wanted Ervin as much as I did.
“Ervin came looking for you today,” Jason said. I didn't even bat an eye.
“I guess that has lost its effect,” he muttered, laughing dryly. He had used it once to make me shower and dress up—the only time I felt some sort of joy.
