Chapter 24
Aria sat down in the chair, unable to move for the first couple of minutes as she replayed every hurtful word Asher had said to her. It was one thing to be insulted in his office where it would be just the two of them, and she would know how to act like nothing ever happened because it wasn’t the first time he would act in such a manner, but this time around, he had to do it in front of everyone in a despicable manner.
Aria could feel the tears brimming in her eyes, but she’d be damned if she cried in front of her colleagues; she wouldn’t hear the last of it.
“You good, Aria?” It was Tracey, and her voice had genuine concern for me, unlike a couple of others who hadn’t bothered to hide when they were openly laughing at my face.
“I’ve been through worse things, Tracey.” Aria smiled, sniffing as she struggled to maintain her composure. “I’ll be fine in no time. I just need to sleep it off.”
“You don’t always have to pretend like it doesn’t hurt, you know?”
