“What did you say?” Keith asked, keeping his arms folded as he took her in. He’d heard her loud and clear, but curses, he wanted to hear it again. Judging from the look on her face, it must have taken everything in her to push aside her pride and apologize. Hell, he had partially hoped she would leave, and he would be rid of her forever.

But a part of him had desperately prayed that she would stay. That she would prove him wrong and decide to stay. It would seem his prayers were answered. The stubborn woman before him had decided to stay.

But things would have to change.

“I’d like to apologize,” she said louder this time, staring at anywhere but him. “I was... I was wrong. And I said... things that I shouldn’t have. Our bet’s still on. If you find a cure for me, then I’ll be your slave or whatever.”
