Chapter 157. Trapped in the Siege

"What do you mean, I have to join you?" Red asked quietly, following Aamon from behind. "Aelea needs you."

"She can survive and lead the others. There's nothing to worry about."

Red took a deep breath. "I should be with Aelea. Find someone else to go with you."

Red's footsteps stopped as she turned to return to the tent, but Aamon had already grabbed her arm. They locked eyes, and for the first time, Red showed an emotional side.

"Let me go," Red hissed.

"Please..."

"You can't just decide who goes with you or Aelea."

"No, I can't," Aamon nodded. "But I need you, is that so wrong?"

Red pulled her arm from Aamon's grip and hurried back to her tent. Aamon just watched her until she disappeared into the crowd.

Aelea rushed over to Aamon, her face pale and tense. "Are you really leaving?" Aelea asked.

Aamon nodded. "Buy me some time, okay? You have a good fighting strategy, I'm sure you'll hold out."

"But, Aamon..."
