Chapter 131. Anger and Grief
Nora’s mother nodded, her lips trembling as she tried to return Josh’s smile but I could tell that it was not easy and that she was trying her best but was in pain. It was pretty clear that she was on the edge of breaking down again, barely holding herself together in the wake of everything.
“Thank you, Josh,” She whispered, her voice barely audible. “It means a lot that you’re here.”
The room fell silent again, the tension thick and suffocating. Nora’s father stared at the floor, his hands clasped tightly as if he were trying to hold himself together. I could see the pain etched deeply into his face, a pain that mirrored my own.
Finally, Nora’s mother looked at me, and I felt so much guilt filled me. I felt like I was responsible for what had happened to her daughter and I was on the very edge of confessing even though I was not the one that had slit the girl’s throat.
