Instinct took over. I grabbed a jagged piece of wood from the broken table and thrust it upwards, aiming for Grace’s heart. It was all happening so fast but in those few seconds, it was like time had slowed as the stake found its mark, piercing through her chest with a sickening sound.
Her eyes widened in shock and pain as she looked down at the wood stuck in her chest. For a moment, she seemed to be in disbelief, as if she could not believe what had just happened. Then, slowly, the fire in her eyes began to dim, replaced by a deep haunting sadness.
