Chapter 138. The Sparkling Lake

Josh’s words hung in the air, heavy and loaded with emotions. I didn’t know what to say, didn’t know how to respond to a confession that I had already told him how I felt about. My heart pounded in my chest, echoing the confusion and overthinking that was going on in my head.

I remembered that day, when we had gone to the park to talk; when he had confessed to stalking me and being so in love with me. I remembered that I had told him that we could be nothing but friends.

That was the deal, that was the agreement. So why was he doing this?

“Josh, I…” I started, my voice was soft and breathy. “I care about you, I think you know that. But we had this talk before, I can not be with you. I have Mark.”

“Bradley is going to make sure that he’s let out,” I said in hope.

Josh sighed, running his hand through his hair in frustration. “Why can’t you see me? I’m always there for you.
