Chapter 147. The Funeral

As we approached the entrance, the towering doors of the church loomed ahead, their dark wood polished to a gleam that reflected the overcast sky. We walked into the building and my eyes widened a bit. 

I did not expect this many people to be here. As we walked to the front, a few of them flashed me sad smiles and some nodded at me but honestly, I did not know any of them. I wished I did but I did not. 

I responded by smiling back but I was intrigued. I knew that my family was tight-knit, we were small so all these people could not be related to me. And if they were, why didn’t a single one of them visit my grandma when she was in the Home? 

When my father and I sat down, I decided to ask him, “Dad, who are all these people? The church is almost full.” 

“Well, a lot of them are friends of your grandma, and people that she knew. A few are distant family members that we had cut ties with but only show up at funerals. I know you’re confused.” He chu
