Josh took a step closer, his eyes pleading, but I was not buying it. “Lisa you don’t understand. I was trying to protect you. She—she was dangerous. I could not let her hurt you any more than she already had.”
“Oh, she was the dangerous one? Yeah, she had f*cked my fiance, but she had never hurt a fly before. I can’t say the same about you, can I?” I raided a brow. I then stood up abruptly, my chair scraping against the floor. “And what about now? Who’s going to protect me from you, Josh?” My voice trembled a mixture of anger and hurt bleeding into my words. “You’ve done nothing but hurt me.”
For the first time, I saw something flicker in his eyes—fear, regret maybe. But it was too late. Whatever remnants of trust I had in him were long gone.
