Chapter 230. Sobs and Sorrows

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. Was I scared of him? Maybe. But hear me out, how could I not be, knowing what he had just confessed? I did not want to end up like his ex-girlfriend or his therapist. 

But I also could not let him see that I was afraid. He was watching me closely now, searching my face for any signs of fear or judgment. I knew that one wrong word, and everything could go terribly wrong. Or maybe not and I was just paranoid. 

I swallowed hard and took a deep breath. “No, Josh. I am not scared of you,” I finally managed to say, though my voice shook slightly. I could feel my pulse racing in my throat, but I forced myself to keep eye contact. “I’m just…processing everything.” This was kind of true too, I guess. 

He stared at me, his expression a mixture of relief and doubt as if he was not sure whether to believe me or not. His shoulders relaxed slightly, but there was still tension in the air, a weight that neither of us could
